How To Find A Hobby You Love

Humans need so many things to feel vital and relevant in life, and one of those things is a good hobby.  Having something to do outside of the rigors of work and family life is important to give you a sense of self, a purpose.

A hobby may seem like something flimsy on the periphery of life, but a hobby can define you for who you are and what you stand for. A hobby is an excellent boredom buster, and it’s going to help you make friends and expand your circle.

Not only that, but a good hobby can also make you feel like you belong somewhere, and it fulfills your soul. If you want to do something new with your life, nothing stops you from going out and doing it – except yourself.

Taking up a new hobby doesn’t take very long, either.  You can start building planes and learn where to buy RC airplane parts, or you can take up martial arts and learn to body slam people for fun.

No matter what you pick to do, you need to know that it’s what you love – not what you do as a time filler. With that in mind, here are some tips and tricks to help you find a hobby that you love.

What did you love to do when you were a child?

You may not think that running around in circles was a hobby, but running? Running could be an excellent way to spend your time. The best way to find out what you love is to look at what made you feel joy as a child and follow that lead. For instance, learn how to play handpan.

You can also choose to find something new

Is there something out there that you always wanted to do but didn’t because of other people? You might have always wanted to start playing an instrument, but never had the support when you were younger. It is never too late to take beginner cello lessons or lessons for whatever instrument you fancy. Go to the places that inspire you, and you’ll find it.

Always test things out before you commit

Go to a sewing class and learn to sew and knit. If it doesn’t make you feel 100% satisfied, then maybe it’s not for you, and that’s okay. You can “try before you commit” if you want to, no one can tell you that you shouldn’t!

Go with someone you know to something that you might enjoy

If you have a friend who loves to fish, then go and join in a time or two. You may find that your hobby ideas are far more fun when you go with a friend.

Choose something that is going to fit in with your lifestyle

Hobbies like Sudoku and crosswords could be a good fit for you if you’re looking for hobbies that allow you to unwind. Other people like to build model railway buildings to relax. Everyone is different.

Ensure that you choose something social if you want to make friends and spread your wings as part of your hobby

If you love wine, go and join a wine-tasters club. Karate is a great space to meet new people and make friends, too. No matter how you find it – or what you find – choose something that brings you peace and joy.
