You Don’t Have to Reinvent the Wheel to Be Successful in Business
Many potential entrepreneurs never get around to starting their own business because they don’t think that they have a good enough idea, an idea revolutionary enough to make their fortune. The thing is, when it comes to being successful in business, you really do not have to reinvent the wheel. It is perfectly possible to launch and run a successful business with a simple idea, and doing so will help you get started a whole lot more quickly.
Take Airbnb, for example; all they do is offer a platform for people to book accommodation – that’s hardly new – what is new is allowing individuals to list their properties for rental. They haven’t reinvented the wheel, but they have put their own spin on it – if you can do something similar, you are in a great position to start a business of your own, but how do you get to that point?
Think about the products you use
Think about the products and services you use, and then think about how you could improve them even just a little, so get ideas. For example, you may be a runner who uses compression socks to avoid shin splints, but you’ve noticed that they tend to chafe, or they aren’t exactly stylish. You could set up your own company using private label compression socks made from more comfortable materials and look better than the competition’s offerings. It can be as simple as that, so start paying more attention to the products and services you use daily.
Listen to what people are complaining about
The most successful businesses are the oneness that solves a problem for their customers. So, if you’re looking to set up a business without reinventing the wheel, it would be sensible to start listening to the little grumbles your friends and family have daily. Maybe they struggle to open cans left-handed, or they can’t find a shower cleaning product that doesn’t leave streaks. Take these grumbles as inspiration and improve upon existing products to solve the issues – that way, success lies.
Market better than the competition
Even if you’re selling a widely available product, like curtains or can openers, you can build a successful business on the strength of your marketing. If your marketing is smarter, funnier, or just more attractive to the target audience, you will be able to pick up sales without very much, or any, product innovation whatsoever. Focusing on innovation in marketing is often easier for certain types of creatives, and it can be extremely successful.
Offer a higher level of service
From making your products more affordable to making ordering and receiving your goods simpler than the competition, anything you can do to offer a higher level of customer service will help you be successful without reinventing the wheel. Customers like to be treated well and feel like they are getting a good deal, so they will naturally flock to you if you can do that.
